Top Patriotic Song of the 60's

Happy 4th of July!!!

Probably the most patriotic song during the decade of the 60's was "The Ballad of the Green Berets". This song was #1 on the charts for five weeks, during the year of 1966. It was written and sung by Staff Sergeant Barry Sandler, who served in Vietnam with the U.S. Army Special Forces. SSgt. Sadler died of heart failure at age 49, in 1989.

In 1968, John Wayne starred in a movie of the same name, "The Green Berets", and the popular ballad from 1966 was featured on the soundtrack.

Hi Bethie,
First time around. Found your blog. Am familiar with this movie and song. Hope you carry on and never stop with 60s music.
Cheers.

Hello,
I recently made a 60's retro-original album for fun. I recorded vintage instruments exactly the way they did in the day. Getting the sound is one thing, writing a song like our 60's heroes is another...but at least I tried. Tell me what you think: www.thewurms.com

Thanks,
