"Mary Did You Know?"

Kenny Rogers became a popular singer in the '60's. He had many hits with the band "The First Edition" and with country singer Dolly Parton.

I love his version of the deeply meaningful Christmas song, "Mary Did You Know?"

"Do You Hear What I Hear?"

This sweet Christmas song came out in the '60's and became an instant holiday favorite. Here is the original recording of "Do You Hear What I Hear?" by the Harry Simeone Choir.

"If We Never Meet Again This Side of Heaven"

Before there was Michael Jackson and his troubled life and death, there was Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley, in the 50's and 60's. They both had troubled lives, in part due to their fame and celebrity, and maybe even due to over-prescribing doctors. But they both had spiritually devoted mothers who taught them to love Jesus. The two mothers probably hoped their sons would pursue the ministry rather than the limelight. Both Johnny Cash and Elvis Presley, during their careers, made albums of heart-felt Christian hymns. Throughout their troubled lives, they both retained their mother's spiritual teachings.

I hope they are both rejoicing now, in answer to their mom's prayers, in Heaven's Bright City!

Turn, Turn, Turn

Another great "folk song" from the '60's. This is by the group "The Byrds", "Turn, Turn, Turn" (To Everything There is a Season) Some of the lyrics are quotes from the Holy Bible.

"We've Got to Be Magic"

An oldie, not from the '60's, but should have been!

One of Olivia Newton John's top hits, "We've Got to Be Magic", from the musical romance movie, "Xanadu" (1980). If you listen closely to the lyrics you will understand how spiritual this song really is. In the movie, "Xanadu", Olivia Newton John (Kira, really a muse), was the Spiritual Guide of her earthly partner.

"I'll be guiding you
You have to believe we are magic
Don't let your aim ever stray
And if all your hopes survive
Your destiny will arrive."

"Turn Around, Look At Me"

This was a big hit for The Vogues, in the summer of 1968. I think it was the B Side of "My Special Angel". Another Vogues hit was "Five O'Clock World".
But this one was always one of my all-time favorites! Do you remember?

"Brown-eyed Girl"

One of my favorites from the '60's. I remember receiving this 45rpm single as a gift, because I was that brown-eyed girl!
"Do you remember when we used to laugh and play behind the my brown-eyed girl." A '60's Classic!

"Summer Song"

Finally summer is just around the corner! So this is a perfect song for this time of year. I remember it from my high school years, in the'60's...also known as "The British Invasion" era. The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Dave Clark Five, Herman's Hermits, Chad and Jeremy, Peter and Gordon, etc....all from Britain.

"Anthem" by Neil Diamond, is one of my favorite songs from the movie "Jonathon Livingston Seagull", from the early '70's. All the songs in this movie were written by Neil Diamond and they were all deeply touching and heart opening.

Once Upon A Time

"Once Upon a Time" was sung by many popular vocalists in the early 1960's. It's a haunting ballad of first love. This version is by Jack Jones.
