The Impossible Dream

An amazing rendition by Luther Vandross of this classic song, "The Impossible Dream". So inspirational!

Hope you agree.

I Believe, I Believe, I Believe In You

Not from the '60's, but a most beautiful song. Full of encouragement... sad yet hopeful, a wrenching love song about coming back to the Light, never giving up. Sung in English, then in French and then again in English...

"There is nothing that you can not do."

A duet by Il Divo and Celine Dion

Andy Williams is gone, but his beautiful music lives on. He sang so many wonderful love songs, this is one of my most favorite.

"Born Free", Kid Rock

This is NOT the 60's version of "Born Free", from the movie. But this version of "Born Free" by Kid Rock is most appropriate for this political season. Be sure to vote on November 6th. As the classic 60's actor, Clint Eastwood, reminds us...

"WE own this country...."

"Fun, Fun, Fun" with the Beach Boys

One of the many Beach Boys hits, "Fun, Fun, Fun", from 1964.

This month, over 50 years later, the Beach Boys performed at the 4th of July celebration, "Stadium of Fire" in Provo, Utah. I'll bet they performed this song, one more time! (I'd have loved to have been there, but the tickets were $50! I know it would've been worth it, but when you're retired.....)

Wow, you can find just about anything on YouTube! Here is "Fun, Fun, Fun" in Provo, Utah, 4th of July 2012! A little slower after 50 years, but still FUN!
One more TIME!

"Climb Every Mountain"

From the movie, "The Sound of Music" (1965), a beautiful, inspirational song, "Climb Every Mountain". This is sung by the Mother Superior to a young nun.  It's about reaching for your dreams and doing whatever it takes to achieve them.

Since I first heard this song, in 1965, I've had the dream of living near mountains. For the last 20 years, I've been blessed to live on the Wasatch Mountain Range front.

When you give it all you've got, God will do the rest and your dreams WILL come true!

Its So Nice to Be With You

A sweet song from the '60's.... an example of "bubblegum" music. "Bubblegum pop (also known as bubblegum rock, bubblegum music, or simply bubblegum) is a genre of pop music with an upbeat sound contrived and marketed to appeal to pre-teens and teenagers, produced in an assembly-line process, driven by producers, often using unknown singers. Bubblegum's classic period ran from 1967 to 1972." (wikipedia)

The Singing Nun, "Dominique"

Can you imagine the simple, sacred song of a guitar playing singing Nun becoming a top hit on U.S. radio stations? Probably could never happen today, but in the 1960's the song "Dominique" became a popular hit in the U.S. and worldwide, with the Belgian Nun even appearing on "The Ed Sullivan Show". The following video is from a movie where Debbie Reynolds played the role of the Nun, Soeur Sourire ("Smiling Sister").

The second video is of the actual Soueur Sourire and her Sisters in 1963.

'Bye, Bye Birdie"

Enjoy these sweet and funny musical videos from the popular 1963 movie, "Bye, Bye Birdie". This film was originally a broadway stage play; a musical parody of fanatical Elvis devotees, and their despair at the time he was drafted into the Army. Starring a young Ann-Margaret, Bobby Rydell, Dick Van Dyke, Janet Leigh, Paul Lynde, and Ed Sullivan, this movie is about family life in a more conservative and innocent time. The film received stellar reviews and was nominated for two Academy Awards. The lively music and dance scenes were popular with teens and adults alike. I remember, as a pre-teen, listening to the vinyl LP movie soundtrack, playing it over and over. Today "Bye, Bye Birdie" is often performed by high school drama students and is still well-loved by modern audiences. Enjoy!

Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head

From the early 70's, this song by Burt Bacharach was featured in the very popular movie, "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid".

I love the lyric, "Nothing's worrying me." This is a happy song, and when you get it in your mind, you'll find yourself singing it for days!

"We've Only Just Begun"

"We've Only Just Begun" is The Carpenters' signature song. Although it was recorded in early 1970, it is still much in demand as a wedding song.

Elvis' Last Song

Elvis' last song, from his last concert before his untimely death in 1977, was his version of the the #1 hit of the decade of the '60's, "Unchained Melody".

This song made famous by the Righteous Brothers, was just made for Elvis' deep voice, and it's somehow fitting that it was his last song.
